The 90s are back with everything in fashion, and in Lolita Moda, your store to buy branded clothes online, we let you know the trends are back. Oversized plaid shirt, studded boots, Dr Marteen-style boots, plain black or floral dress, ribbed or velvet bodycon dresses, high-waisted jeans, even if you think you’re making a list of all the clothes you must take out from your closet, it’s not like that. This time’s undefined style is a trend in all shop windows and department stores.
garments with personality
Yes, checkered pants, torn grunge-style tights, flower skirts, chockers, lace tights and more are back. It seems only yesterday that the sides of jeans were cut so they could fall over boots. This time was unique: millennials grew up -the current adults from 20 to 35 years old-cable television, the Internet, etc. Information was received by all means.
Also, iconic artists like Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, and Christina Aguilera became prominent. Who does not remember Britney Spears with asymmetrical mini skirts, white blouses with infinite necklines in her promo “Baby one more time” or the Backstreets Boys with their “street style”, plaid shirts, etc.? A time that marked an imprint on fashion.
Another of the trends that marked that time, and that is back this Fall, is the vitality of the Hip Hop rhythm, its large jewellery with messages, black jeans with white flannel and a red plaid shirt tied at the waist.
Nineties codes to take into account
You know the 90s are back with everything in fashion, so find out what styles you can start wearing:
- Logomania is a trend on international catwalks whose main objective is greater brand exposure. Hip Hop chains, with new age, air with inspirational messages such as “Love yourself”, “Love”, “Peace”, etc. Other accessories that have this type of code are leather gloves that extend to the elbows, which bear brand names throughout the length of the forearm, etched with a laser.
- Unisex: during this time, the feminine style was masculinized in jeans, t-shirts, etc. The girls tend to wear a more casual and street style, perhaps androgynous. However, women who are more feminist and with a perfect figure can opt for velvet or ribbed dresses.
- Oversize: The “tight” of the ’80s expanded in the ’90s, and everything became bigger: pants, shirts, accessories, etc. Wide clothes with messages are a “must have in your closet”. The great influencers and propagators of this style were artists with a worn look and unkempt physical appearances, such as the rock couple Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, who were characterized by wearing ripped jeans and striped shirts.
- High waist: Whether in skirts or jeans, this trend was all the rage thanks to shows like Friends. The positive thing about this trend is that it allows you to lengthen and stylize the figure. The pants with Brazilian cuts did a lot of damage to the female bodies; with these, the statistics will be moulded a little more.
- Converse: Since they arrived, they haven’t left. These shoes are usually very comfortable and have always been in our closets. But fashion specialists want to pay tribute to those already on the market with reinterpretations and unique colours. After all, who doesn’t have at least one pair of black or white Converse in their closet?
- Bags: there are minis or XXL versions; the ideal is to wear it with the straps as loose as possible to give that casual and rebellious style. Big houses like Chanel had proposed for a couple of seasons, but it didn’t get much of a response. Today, Prada made the reinterpretation with flower or banana prints and even geometric ones.
- Piercings: between 2009 and 2015, they began to disappear, but they are already in vogue. Whether on the nose, earlobe or tongue, these particular pieces returned to highlight that rebellious style of the time. Melanie Brown -Mel B of the Spice Girls- was one of the first famous artists of the time to wear a tongue piercing.
- Reinterpretation: department stores have turned to renowned designers to make accessible versions of fashion, taking as a starting point everything that was an icon in the 90s but with the current touch they require. Floral prints and textures are the strong points of these proposals, called the 90s.
- Pink hair: Several magazines are making proposals, through their covers, that this is the new colour you should wear. In the ’90s, Gwen Stefani made it fashionable with her video Don’t Speak. Currently, models like Charlotte Free and Caroline Trentino are the ones who are reinterpreting this style.
Excellent and outlined eyebrows, brown and outlined lips, and foundations much lighter than your skin tone -to look pale- are three that we are grateful for not returning. After all, the 90s are back with everything in fashion, but the good.
It is no coincidence that artists such as the Backstreet Boys have timidly reappeared or have proposed reunions of characters that became popular in the 90s. It seemed like a complete return to remember the best of fashion and the entertainment world of the time. What do you think of this trend? Let us know your opinion.
